Urumi, the historical base story after Pazhasi Raja in Malayalam industry, takes to 16th century, the furious battle groups of Ancient Northern Kerala is a must watch film for all those love quality cinema, Redefining the traditional qualities of period dramas, ‘Urumi’ is sure to become a movie that will be respected and adored by Mollywood for its creative panache, tremendous performances and great technical wizardry.

Urmi which is one of the highest budgeted histirical period film, current period of Mollywood, Santosh Sivan’s ‘Urumi’ is a beautifully set revenge drama, weaved around the tales of attempted assassination of Portuguese sailor Vasco Da Gama.

Urmi highlights the episode of exclusive system of Chirakkal Kelu Nayanar (Prithviraj), a man with an epic task, Nayanar target and focus is Dom Vasco da Gama, the Viceroy of Portuguese Empire in India. The film is spins midst the visits of Gama to India and events by immigrant’s version of how Gama could have met a bloody death in AD 1524. In Kelu’s journey had encountered the interruption conflicts the kings and his candidates and a warring Muslim warrior princess Ayesha (Genelia) of the famed Arackal Sultanat.

Kelu has the legendary golden Urumi, specially made from the left over ornaments of the dead women and kids who were burnt alive to death in the massacre of a Mecca Ship, Miri, ordered to be set on fire and suffocation by Vasco da Gama during his second visit to Kerala in AD 1502. Kelu is supported by Vavvali (Prabhudeva) his childhood pal though he comes from the Muslim neighborhood. The film also has typical characters like Vidya Balan, who plays Makkom, a displaced Devi Diety in the Oracle form. Kelu gets the plan to create his own army against the mighty Empire. Kelu becomes the first turn against the first Colonial advance in India.

Urmi multi-stars multilingual film though with the historical base but it's entertaining and the performances very convincing, “Urumi is huge, stated Mani Ratnam. Urumi a Santosh Magic.” Terrefic cinematography, Vision and concept gives this real epic the feel of a Brave Heart or Gladiator. Perfect cast, extraordinary performances, soothing score and technical brilliance. Histrionic gestures and exaggerated facial expressions are impeccable. All Together, its Awesome.. Promise to watch once more, quality lovers.
